BREEDING SPORT HORSES

At Davenport stables we have a breeding program that has been running for many years, with some fantastic and talented sports horses coming up into the sport.

We have 10 top brood mares who have all competed internationally with James and brother, Richard, to a very high level.
We carefully source stallions from all over the world and we were one of the first to use Kannan, now one of the leading stallions in the world.

We are also pleased to be using the new and upcoming stallion of John Whittaker, Argento, by Nick Skelton’s International horse, Arko.

Other stallions we are using include: Air Jordan, Indoctro, Arko, Cassini II, Cheers Cassini, Caretino, Andiamo and Burgraff.
We have fields full of well bred foals, yearlings, 2 years olds and 3 year olds and stables full with young horses from 3 years upwards for breaking, schooling and competing.

We do not usually sell on our youngsters until they are 4 or 5. At this time we bring them in, back them and have them riding before we advertise them for sale. By selling this way we have a good idea of the sort of horse they are going to make – and the sort of buyer they will suit. We have sold many horses that have gone on to different disciplines including show jumping, dressage and eventing at all levels – with a number going right to the top!
