Davenport Stables are dedicated to breeding and bringing on world class sports horses.

Situated in the heart of Cheshire, and just 20 minutes from Manchester airport, we are perfectly placed to benefit from the beautiful English countryside and the convenience of our overseas visitors.

The relaxed tranquil environment is beneficial for breeding, training and bringing on top quality showjumping horses.

James Davenport

James was born in 1982 and took to riding from an early age. He trained as a mechanic before taking to riding full time.
He then trained in Holland with Jan Tops and Rolf-Goran Bengtsson. Throughout his show jumping career, James has had some great results including 4 team gold medals and an individual silver medal, in Junior and Young riders and numerous Grand Prix wins.
James recently spent a successful 18 months in Sweden to make Scandinavian contacts.

Angelie von Essen

Angelie was born in Sweden in 1978. She is a successful show jumper who also trained with Rolf-Goran Bengtsson for 2 years.
For 10 years, Angelie has educated young horses producing them to International level. She moved to the UK in 2008 to join the team.

Davenport Stables are an international team with British and Swedish staff.

Jean Davenport

James’ mother, Jean Davenport, has represented Great Britain on numerous occasions at the highest level of International Show Jumping and has twice won the coveted Queens Cup.

Stephen Davenport

James’ father, Stephen is a former National Hunt jockey, with many wins and is now in charge of our breeding programme and backing of the young horses.
Both James’ parents are a big part of the business, with their experience, knowledge and hard work.
